Medication Take Back Event on Oct. 27th

On Saturday, you can safely get rid of medications you no longer need. The Durham Police Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, will be holding the National Take Back Initiative on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at four locations. The National Take Back Initiative allows people to safely and anonymously dispose of unused or expired over-the-counter and prescription medications. The program’s purpose is to educate the public on the dangers of pharmaceutical drug abuse and accidental poisonings as well as educate them on the responsible handling, security and destruction of prescription and over-the-counter medications
The National Take Back Initiative will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 27th at the following locations:
• Walgreens, 1812 Holloway Street
• CVS, 3573 Hillsborough Road
• Triangle Pharmacy/Ace Hardware, 1700 East NC Highway 54
• Walgreens, 6405 Fayetteville Road
Officers at these locations will supervise the collection and maintain security of any collected materials. The collected materials will be destroyed in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

Durham ReUse Rodeo, Shredding & E-cycling Event Oct. 13

The City of Durham is again hosting a ReUse Rodeo event at Durham County Stadium on October 13th.  You can also bring documents to be shredded and e-waste items to be recycled.  This is a great place to do a one-stop drop off of lots of things that are collecting space in your house.  Nonprofit organizations (such as Durham Rescue Mission and Habitat ReStore) will be on hand to take any donations you would like to drop off.  More information can be found here.

Target Stores Car Seat Recycling Event Sept. 9-22

Target has announced that it will accept any and all car seats at their locations for a recycling event from September 9 through 22.  In exchange, you will receive a 20% off coupon for a new car seat, stroller or select baby gear.  Items accepted for recycling include:

  • Infant car seats
  • Convertible car seats
  • Car seat bases
  • Harness or booster car seats
These items can be expired or damaged.  Coupons can be picked up at Guest Services.
